Flipping Burr on Torture

Senator Burr led the effort to block release of the CIA’s report on its torture program and was lining up opposition to a key anti-torture amendment in the Senate. In March of 2015, we organized Baptist pastor listening meetings and conducted an email campaign to NC faith voters (see examples here & here) critiquing Burr. The emails generated almost 35,000 petition signatures and over 100,000 total actions. The night before the vote, our pastors delivered petitions to Burr. The next day, he flipped his position (and brought Tillis with him) to vote in favor of the anti-torture amendment.
